About
Post 881 is about helping all veterans and families. Not just those that reside or work at Moffett Field but anyone that is need or just needs a helping hand with a project.
Our Post is small in numbers but do quite a bit in our community. We reach out to Mountain View and Sunnyvale residents to educate them what we are all about. Even veterans are not quite sure what we do. Well, here it is in a large nutshell.
Post 881 members, their families and friends are always on the look out for someone that may need assistance. Sometimes it is one of own that needs help. We have helped veterans with household projects at sometimes no cost to them. Big projects we have set up a GoFundMe account for the individual to raise money. In doing such, we managed to get a new roof put on a veteran's home that was leaking on the upper floor. Another veteran's home was hit by a mudslide in early 2017. The GoFundMe page has been helpful in raising funds to cover costs that the insurance company was not able to provide. Our service officer has access to our funds for a quick $100 to help a person in immediate need. Gas and food cards are another way we provide immediate help to families.
In addition to helping veterans, we have gone out into the community through the NextDoor webpage and found people that needed assistance with projects. In doing so, we have made friends with many non-military people. These people have donated items for us to be used for projects for local veterans. The more people we help, then the more people become aware of the American Legion.
Come out on one or both of the holidays that we participate in each year. We provide support to the Mountain View Veterans Memorial on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. http://www.mvveteransmemorial.org/index.html
We are also working on building up funds to send youth to American Legion events like Boys and Girls State.

Another goal of ours is to help veterans gain access to programs within the VA and the American Legion that can benefit them and their families. One of those is applying for medical benefits from injuries sustained while on active duty.
To learn more about the events we participate in on a yearly basis or to see how you can be part of our Post; even if you are not a veteran, please contact us at [email protected].
